Shinny things and the beach

Yes, it has finally happened! J and I are officially engaged as of yesterday night (7/19/08). The news has already started to spread like wildfire! We told 5 or so people at the church this morning, and I told another handfull of some close friends and within about 20 minutes it seemed like half the church knew. We don’t mind though. We kinda find it funny that people are reacting the way they are. We’ve gotten all kinds of responses. Some of my favs are, “I thought you two were already married,” “It’s about time,” and my personal favorite, “Finally! That’s a relief” said with both arms straight up in the air! People crack me up!

We’ve also been asked a bunch of questions already, the first of which and most popular is how did he ask. So here’s the story… We were at the Annual Beach trip yesterday and had been at the beach all day. Both of us got totally burned up, but that has nothing to do with the story, just thought I’d tell you. :-) Anyway, so when I got back from meeting a friends boss who lives down the street from where we were, J and I went for a walk and played with his camera a little. The sun had just dropped below the horizon so it was starting to get dark, but that didn’t matter. Just made the photo taking difficult.

Anyway, so we go to the pier and were checking out this photographer who was in the water shooting a surfer, why I don’t know because it was too dark to see at this point. J asked me to get him the short lens out of his back, which was odd because we had just been making fun of the guy shooting in the dark in the water, but whatever. So I go to get into his bag and there was a Build-a-Bear in there. Totally cute! He’s tan and fuzzy and has a voice box inside his hand. He told me to squeeze it, and I did, but I couldn’t hear what it was saying. We were afterall under the pier and the waves were crashing. So, since I couldn’t hear what it was saying he said it says “I love you. Will you marry me?” Of course I said yes!

When we go tback to the fire, he had told me that my sister and one or two other people knew he might do it last night, so we didn’t say anything. We waited to see how long it would take everyone to figure it out and to notice. I think it took my sister about 30 minutes to find it. Either way, everyone was so excited and freaking out. It was awesome and perfect and I loved it. :-)

Ok, so a few answers to a couple other questions. No we don’t have a date yet and we’re thinking a year to a year and a half, possibly 2 years max. It kind of depends on school and when we will have time to plan and stiff like that. Anway, that’s all for now I suppose. I’m sure I’ll have another post soon with some updated info as it comes. Until then, feel free to ask any questions you may have. I’ll post our web address soon. We gotta get it set up first. :-)

Back out in the desert…

Hello again! So, I came home from camp on Saturday, and less than a week later I left again. This time I’m doing research again. It is so hot an humid up here! Oh, and the best part, there is almost nothing going on at any of the territories that I’m watching. Blah… Oh well, it’s all data right? So we’ve been sitting at the territory, basically doing nothing for half an hour each. In the humid, sticky, gross sun. Oh well… It’s almost over now… One morning left. Then we go back home, and I get to stay there for about a month before leaving again…

Anyway, so if you don’t already know, I get to do research with the help of one of my best friends. Anyway, we came back into the common room of the center about 15 minutes ago after battling this huge ugly beetle. Oh, it was discusting and huge! So gross! He swept it off the pavement after fighting it for about 5 minutes trying to get it off the wall it had attached itself to. I was freaking out a little… It kept trying to run back at me! Actually, I think it was just headed for the wall, but still! If a giant beetle about 3 inches long with giant fang teeth thing coming out of its head, you’d be a little freaked too! Either way, it is gone now, but I still don’t want to walk around outside by myself now.

Ok, so side note. I’m so excited for a couple of things that are coming up! Here’s the breakdown…
J’s turning 23 on Wed (haha… you’re older than me old man!)
We have one of our prego friend’s baby shower on the Sunday after I get home! She’s due in Sept. Yeah!
Then the annual beach trip is on the 19th, which I’m so excited about because some of these people I only get to see once a year.
Last but most definately not least, one of my other best friends is pregnant and her due date is getting closer! I’m so excited! I’m going to be an auntie!!

Ok, I’m gonna go now. Until next time… Smile
